Hääjuhlapaikan valinta

Kun ryhdyimme toden teolla suunnittelemaan häitämme, aivan ensimmäisenä asialistalla oli hääjuhlapaikan valinta. Juhlapaikka määrittelee mielestäni hyvin pitkälle häiden tyylin ja tunnelman: on aivan eri asia juhlia häitä vaikkapa ladossa aukeiden peltojen keskellä, kartanossa järven rannalla tai ravintolassa kaupungin keskustassa.

Nuorempana olin haaveillut kartanohäistä, mutta minun ja Samulin tarinassa meri on keskeinen elementti, ja meille tuntui sopivan parhaiten merellinen juhlapaikka. Asuimme suhteemme alussa Altantin valtameren eri puolilla merenrantakaupungeissa (Helsingissä ja Bostonissa) ja matkustimme ensitreffeille Islantiin samaisen valtameren keskelle. Ensimmäinen yhteinen kotimme oli merellisessä Bostonissa. Kihloihin menimme Havaijilla Tyynen valtameren hellässä syleilyssä, ja samoihin maisemiin palasimme ennakkohäämatkalle. Kihlajaiskuvissamme keskeinen miljöö on meitä sekä yhdistänyt että erottanut Atlantti.

Kihlauduimme jo vuonna 2015 Yhdysvalloissa asuessamme mutta päätimme minun toiveestani järjestää häämme vasta, kun asuisimme jälleen Suomessa. Suunnittelimme alusta alkaen viettävämme häitä Uudellamaalla, koska suurin osa läheisistämme asuu siellä ja halusimme, että heidän olisi helppo osallistua suureen päiväämme. Aloinkin etsiskellä siltä seudulta merellistä hääpaikkaa jo kauan ennen kuin olimme edes päättäneet häävuottamme.

Hangon Casino tuli minulle vastaan jo varhaisessa vaiheessa etsintääni ja ihastuin heti ajatukseen, että viettäisimme häitä Hangossa. Lomaillessani Suomessa vuonna 2017 kävin katsomassa paikkaa vanhempieni kanssa. Samuli oli Bostonissa eikä päässyt mukaan mutta kuvasin hänelle videoita. Samuli ei kuitenkaan niiden perusteella vakuuttunut ideastani. Maisema ja miljöö olivat upeat mutta tila oli nuhjuinen eikä sen sisustus ollut erityisen viehättävä.

Vuonna 2019 olimme vihdoin valmiita lyömään hääpäivän lukkoon, ja aloimme puuhata häitä kesälle 2020. Kaivoin esiin Hangon Casinon nettisivut, ja meitä odotti yllätys: ravintola oli vaihtanut omistajaa ja remontoitu täysin. Piha, miljöö ja merimaisema olivat ennallaan, mutta tilat olivatkin nyt modernit ja tyylikkäät. Paikasta oli tullut kaikin puolin täydellinen, ja valinta oli sillä selvä.

Hääpaikan valinta sujui siis yllättävän helposti siitä huolimatta, että asuimme toisella mantereella emmekä päässeet valintaa tehdessämme paikan päälle eri paikkoja katsomaan.
