Miten valita ekoruokaa häihin?

Meidän häiden suurin menoerä on ruoka. Koska ruokailuun kuluu paljon rahaa, haluamme sen olevan myös meidän näköinen. Ruoalla on suuret ympäristövaikutukset, joten tässä joitakin vinkkejä, kuinka valita ympäristöystävällisempää ruokaa niin arkeen kuin (hää)juhlaankin.

Kesäkeitto on hyvä esimerkki siitä, että sesongilla on väliä: nimikin jo kertoo, että se on parasta kesällä.

Sesonkiruoka. Tosi helppo keino syödä ympäristöystävällisesti on kauden kasvisten suosiminen, koska silloin tuotannon päästöt ovat pienempiä. Kasvukauden ulkopuolella tapahtuva viljely vaatii enemmän energiaa esimerkiksi lämmitykseen ja valaisuun ja aiheuttaa suuremmat kustannuksetkin. Satokautenaan kasvikset ovat myös parhaimmillaan makunsa puolesta.

Ruokahävikki. Ruokahävikki on roskiin heitettyä syömäkelpoista ruokaa, johon käytetty energia, työ ja raha valuvat hukkaan. Täten jo hyvin suunniteltu ja sopivasti mitoitettu ruokailu on ekoteko. Lisäksi Suomessa taistellaan kauppojen ruokahävikkiä vastaan alennuksin, lahjoittamalla hyväntekeväisyyteen ja loihtimalla hävikkiruoasta ravintola-annoksia. Helsingissä Ravintola Loopissa hyödynnetään kaupoista, tehtailta ja tuottajilta kerättyjä raaka-aineita gourmet-ruokaan, ja myydään jopa hävikkileivistä tehtyä olutta!

Kasviperäinen ruoka.  Kasviperäisen ruoan suosiminen on tehokas tapa vähentää ruoan ympäristövaikutuksia. Maito ja kerma on helppo korvata kasviperäisillä tuotteilla, ja nykyään pienetkin kaupat tarjoavat monipuolisesti vaihtoehtoja täysin vegaaniseenkin ruokavalioon. Jos tarkkoja ollaan, vegaaninen ruoka ei kuitenkaan aina ole ekologista. Ekologisilla ruokaostoksilla tulisi kiinnittää huomiota esimerkiksi siihen, sisältääkö tuote palmuöljyä, jonka ympäristövaikutuksista mainitsinkin jo kynttiläpostauksessa.

Vaikka hääruoalla ei ole tietenkään tarkoitus käännyttää ketään tai tyrkyttää omaa katsomustaan vieraille, on mun mielestä täysin oikeutettua, että hääpari tarjoaa omaa arvomaailmaansa vastaavaa ruokaa. Samalla tämä voi olla monelle vieraalle loistava mahdollisuus kokeilla uusia ruokia perinteisten kermaperunoiden ja lihapullien sijaan. 🙂

Täysin vegaanista menuta tavoitellessa on hyvä varmistaa, että tekijät tietävät mitä se tarkoittaa. Vegaaniseen ruokavalioon ei kuulu maitotuotteiden ja kananmunien lisäksi esimerkiksi liivate tai hunaja, jotka ovat myös eläinperäisiä tuotteita.
